Wedding Music

Prelude/Meditation

Description: Prelude music is usually played/sung about 15 minutes before the start of your ceremony. Appropriate secular vocal selections would only be allowed before the ceremony as a prelude. These pieces will be played as your guests gather and are seated. These pieces would also work if you would like to include a meditational song during the ceremony, for example, after communion.

Processional

Description: 1 or 2 pieces can be played (or sung if desired) as grandmothers, mothers, bridesmaids, flower girls, and ring bearers process. Consider the size of your wedding party when choosing between 1 and 2 selections. Prelude suggests above could also be appropriate for the processional.

Preparation of the Gifts/Communion

Description: If you are having a full Mass, you will need to choose selections for the Preparation of the Gifts and Communion.  Consider how many guests will be receiving communion when deciding between 1 and 2 Communion selections.  If you would like to encourage your guests to participate in the singing, it is suggested to choose selections from the Breaking Bread Hymnal or the All Saints Supplement.

Presentation to Mary

Description: Oftentimes, a couple may choose to present flowers to Mary and their mothers. A Marian song is often sung at this time; however, many other sacred selections would be appropriate.

Recessional

Description: You will want to pick an upbeat and happy recessional piece while you recess out as a married couple! Instrumental only pieces are most common, though you may also consider inviting your guests to sing along on a hymn or vocal selection.
