Divine Mercy Sunday

Posted on April 15, 2020 in: General News

Sunday, April 19th is Divine Mercy Sunday and that afternoon, Ally Rupp and Todd Mesler Jr., two of our favorite All Saints musicians, are going to sing the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. It will be live streamed on Facebook from the church at 3:00 pm.  We hope you will be able to join us for this beautiful devotion.

Praying the chaplet is simple, and uses rosary beads to keep track of the prayers. Using the three beginning beads, pray one Our Father, Hail Mary, and Apostle's Creed. For the five decades of the rosary, we pray one "Eternal Father" prayer and ten "For the sake of his sorrowful passion" prayers. Once all five decades are complete, the chaplet ends with three "Holy God, Holy Mighty God" prayers.  Traditionally, we then recite "Jesus, I trust in you" three times to close the chaplet.

The chaplet is typically just recited, but several composers have written music to sing each prayer. Todd's version features beautiful melodies that you'll be able to learn quickly and join in. Or, just enjoy the musical prayer.  We hope that you'll be able to add the Divine Mercy Chaplet as part of your routine prayers. How we need his mercy, on us, and the whole world.
